Profile/Background:

20+ years experience of end to end Credit Risk gained from roles in retail and corporate financial services organisation, such as LBG, Barclays, RBS Group, Santander, Prudential, Egg and the Co-op Group. A Chartered Management Accountant with demonstrable achievements in leadership, Strategy, Finance and Risk Management. A trusted advisor and problem solver with good negotiation and influencing skills at Director to Board Member level, with judicious business acumen and proven ability to develop and execute priorities. Is experienced in Credit Risk, Operational Risk, AIRB model development and Implementation within the Basel II space for calculating Regulatory and Economic Capital, development and maintenance of Impairment & provisioning model both in the context of IAS39 and IFRS 9, and is committed to developing team integrity, knowledge retention with sound interpersonal skills operating within a complex environment.

Key Experience Gained:

  • Established the Risk Model Review Committee within Lloyds Asset Finance as part of the Basel II waiver application, liaising with Divisional and Group Risk Model Governance Committees.
  • Initiated and established an Independent Model Validation function at the CFS Group to cater for Risk Models across both the Co-op Bank and the CIS Insurance Company.
  • Developed and implemented product profitability models for LBG UKRB across the whole suite of retail products, thus introducing a profitability dimension to the credit decisioning process.
  • Set up an Impairment Provisioning function for NewDay Cards Ltd. Designed, developed and implemented both impairment provisioning models both under IAS 39 and IFRS 9 regimes, for retail and corporate asset classes.
  • Managing and lead a team of 3 Risk Managers and 5 Senior Analysts within the Impairment and Capital function.
  • Developed the suite of retail AIRB models for the Nationwide and the LBG including PD, EAD and LGD for Credit Cards, Current Account, Secured, Unsecured Loans, Mortgage Book and asset backed lending, using SAS.
  • Enhance and address the weaknesses of the existing Model Risk Framework in light of the current regulations on models from the PRA by a Policy re-write.
  • Established a high performing Impairment & Provisioning Function within the NewDay Business.
  • Established and a key stakeholder of the Impairment Steering Committee, and established the IFRS 9 programme of work.
  • Developed and implemented a new Target Operating Model for calculating and booking impairment and provisioning numbers in the ledgers.
  • Successfully delivered the IFRS 9 Programme to develop risk models and the infrastructure to replace the current IAS 39 approach to impairment provisioning.
  • Established and a member of the Macro Economic Panel that opines on scenarios and probability weights to be used for IFRS 9 Forward Look element of the process and the use of Macro Data across the business.
  • Lead a team of 5 EAD and LGD model development Manager and Analysts, with additional 6 offshore technical development resources who work across the whole of Portfolio Risk Analytics Department.
